We reported recently that Scotland needs to plant a billion trees in order to meet climate change targets set for the year 2050. The planting rates would need to be 10,000 hectares per year - eclipsing the current rate of 4,000 per year.
Information has come to light recently that the creation of wind farms (with the resultant clearing of trees) is actually resulting in a deficit in our woodland creation rates. We are currently investigating these claims further because we feel that if the information is true then there would appear to be a somewhat of a dichotomy. Surely there needs to be a balance or a structure that requires the power companies to replant what they clear? The door is open to them to come and talk to us! More info on this to follow soon... watch this space!

That leaves a deficit of 6,000 hectares of trees - but according to our sources things could actually be a lot worse than this.
