Hydro Project for the farm
Thursday, 27 August 2009 07:22

Could we go any greener? We are currently working with micro renewables company, On Site Generation, to put in place a micro hydro turbine that will provide ‘green' electricity for the farm.

It is quite amazing that some of the oldest forms of energy are now coming back round again - especially water and wind power. Balmuick Farm where Teaghlach Wood is located used to use water power and there are the remnants of an old laid running down from the burn to the farmyard.

We aim to put in a modern version of this system and On Site Generation has kindly volunteered to help us with the project. Angus attended one of their training courses recently which covered various renewable technologies such as ground source heating, wind and hydro turbines as well as some of the grants and regulation that need to be successfully negotiated.

If you would like to learn more about these interesting technologies then we recommend that you book a place on their two day training course which covers the principles behind the design and installation of small scale renewable heating and electricity generating technologies in Scotland.

Dates 8th and 9th September 2009
3rd and 4th November 2009
Venue Midlothian Innovation Centre, Roslin, Midlothian, EH25 9RE
