Teaghlach Wood

It is now spring time in Scotland and the weather is typically indifferent!  All good news for our trees.  The first phase of Teaghlach Wood has come away brilliantly with most of the trees now in leaf.

2009 is set to be a big year for us with plans to begin planting an additional 35 hectares in the Spring. You can see the fabulous location in the attached pictures. As you can see the bracken has been dealt with so it will not grow in the Spring time and allow the trees, when planted, to flourish. It is this meticulous ground preparation that contributes to the fabulous 99% survival rate of our trees.

As all of our trees are native broadleaf varieties (such as oak, ash, willow, rowan and birch), they lose their leave during the winter and then begin to flourish again in the spring. Judging by the recent weather I bet they cannot wait for Spring!

While the summer of 2008 is not a good one for barbecues it is a good one for trees! In the space of a few months our trees were already demonstrating significant growth - unprecedented in some cases.

Trees are planted!

The Big Tree Project would like to extend a big thanks to all those individuals and businesses who have supported their project.

The first batch of 4,000 trees went into the ground on 13th-14th April. In the pictures you will see the planters in action.
